Australia Post now Safe Drops in parcelboxes

Posted by

Happy New Year.  We kick off 2016 with very good news!  Common sense is alive and well in parcel delivery, such that Australia Post recently changed their terms and conditions with senders to make Safe Drop the default choice.  This was in response to clear feedback from online shoppers.

This change is prominent in the new delivery notification emails, which give you the option of receiving e-parcel shipments.  With the click of a button [USE SAFE DROP FOR THIS DELIVERY] you can now request the parcel be safe dropped in your parcel mailbox.

Australia Post explains Safe Drop as follows:

How Safe Drop can save you the trip

In some cases, we can look for a safe spot to leave your parcel at the delivery address.

If a signature isn't needed

When we don't need a signature for delivery, we'll try to find a suitable place to leave your parcel. If we can't, it'll be taken to a nearby Post Office for collection.

Either way, you'll get a notification telling you where your parcel is.

If a signature is needed

You can use your MyPost account to request a Safe Drop for some parcels, waiving the requirement for signature on delivery. You can even select a location for your parcel to be left.

And if you change your mind, you can cancel Safe Drop up until 1 hour before delivery.

So, to take advantage of this change make sure you:

1.  Have a secure drop location.  You won't find one better than a modern Deliver-Eze Parcel Letterbox such as our new 316 marine grade stainless steel front retrieval Brighton (brick in) parcel box shown below.

2.  Set up a MYPost account at Australia Post and specify safe drop.

3.  When you order items on line, address them to "Secure Parcel Letterbox" before your street address.  In the comments field, make it clear you want the sender to address to safe drop in your parcel mailbox.
