We recently released another brick parcel letterbox for home parcel delivery. In addition to this new narrow brick in letterbox shown above, we made a further update of the full size version known as the Brighton parcel letterbox.

Due to popular demand we now manufacture "Brick250" (248mm wide), an all-new
brick letterbox for home parcel delivery, to suit 2x2 pillars.
It uses the same proven and world-leading basic design as our Brighton
brick in parcel letterbox, but we took the opportunity to add several new features including
full stainless sides and a rear door which can be hinged on either side. The depth is also adjustable - and as with
our standard Brighton brick parcelbox the rear panel can be detached and moved
back to suit thick walls or pillars. The
rear panel can even be mounted on the side for side retrieval of mail and
parcels. Both parcelboxes have the option of stainless steel side panel extensions, which allow a depth up to 615mm rather than the base version's 480mm maximum. The adjustments can be made in 5mm increments, which suits all render thicknesses and and all types and variations in brick or block sizes.

To avoid confusion we are calling this new model parcel letterbox Brick 250,
because it is 248mm wide, to fit the 250mm wide cavity inside a 2x2 brick pillar, pier or column. This is the most common brick pier size
(470 x 470 mm). Of course it can also
fit into block walls, and this design has set back the parcel storage chamber by 151mm to
suit 100 and 150 series blocks, which are up to 140mm thick, plus the render thickness.

If you have an existing brick pillar our Brick 250 parcel mailbox can also
be retrofitted into it. While it
requires a bit of cutting, the end result is well worth it. There is a large time saving from having your own home post box for parcel delivery, not to mention the security and convenience. Importantly, Deliver-Eze parcel letterboxes are arguably the most secure, and certainly the most durable and high quality units on the market. After 7 years they have an impressive record of reliability, far superior to the cheaply made rubbish our competitors import from China - ignore the Australian logos or words on their websites - they are not Australian made, whereas our brick, fence and wall models have been audited and certified Australian Made by australianmade.com.au and hence why we are the only parcel letterbox company to display the Australian made logo!

We also added a stainless steel cover plate at the front of the storage chamber. Satchels, boxes and letters are now presented with an impressive clean stainless steel storage chamber on the front as well as the sides. We have not increased the cost, making these models even better value.

To top it off, we also released a brushed 316 marine grade stainless steel rear panel option for both models. This means there is no carbon steel to rust, and all parts are stainless steel, marine grade aluminium, or high grade engineering polymers (something the Chinese units will never use because it adds cost and they are addicted to 2 cent pop rivets being used as pivots in single shear, which is totally wrong as any design engineer or mechanic knows well). We are quite confident these are the best and most durable, secure, and high quality parcel letterbox available anywhere in the world. Our units are not much dearer than the others, and cheaper than some simple units on the market.

Brick250 is not on our website yet (our new website is still not ready) but if you want to know more, or order our new brick letterbox design - we are only a phone call
or message away: info@deliver-eze.com.au

Please check out the photo of a recent installation at a modern house in Mentone, adding to our many parcel letter boxes Melbourne loves.

Our hugely popular freestanding pillar letterbox for home parcel delivery will be back in production and ready for dispatch by early October 2020. To all those customers on our waiting list, thanks for your patience. Our products are the best on the world market, and our designs and specifications are far ahead of the pack, based on our background in automotive design and engineering.

August 2020 has been our six year anniversary of the launch of our world-leading parcel letterboxes. Our rendered pillar letterbox has evolved over that time. We are now at Generation 3 and made them in Australia for 4 years. In order to avoid cost increases, as of October the bodies will be imported. However the product will actually be improved.

The key benefits of our pillar letterbox are:

- Largest parcels securely. Others take smaller parcels AND can be fished out by hand when the door is half open!

- Most durable. The mechanism is tested to 25 years of use. Competitors use rivets as pivot points, which wear out quickly based on our testing.

- Most corrosion resistant. On top of the galvanised steel and phosphating we use three coatings (5 in total) where our competitors use one coating, or one plus a render which won't stick. We looked at using our competitors' factories but most did not even do phosphating, which is essential for adhesion and corrosion resistance of the base layer. Our coatings all pass ASTM crosscut adhesion tests.

The body is made from heavy-duty, galvanized steel, with zinc phosphate, plus 3 extra coatings including the barrier primer and a primer we apply in Australia that has undergone 1000+ hours salt spray resistance testing. We then finish with an Australian exterior render paint to give a beautiful and durable coating. The rear door is now rendered to blend in. Unlike powder coating, our render can be over-painted with any water or oil based exterior paint. We have carried out ASTM crosscut adhesion tests and verified all conventional paints adhere to it. In contrast, no paint we have tested or heard of will pass this test on outdoor powder coating, which other companies use. This and other important quality factors are what we pride ourselves on.

Parcel Letterbox

Aesthetically, the Mosman pillar parcel drop box is carefully designed to look like a rendered brick pillar, but with so much more functionality.

Since launching our first parcel letterboxes a year ago we have been amazed by the response from home shows, the media and most importantly our customers. People keep telling us every home will have one in the future, and customers often tell us they looked hard and found Deliver-Eze is the best in world (which our benchmarking program agrees with). Overseas customers are finding out about us too, and we are currently shipping parcel letterboxes to New Zealand and the USA where our patent was recently granted. In the US they refer to them as drop boxes, locking mailboxes or parcel mailboxes.

Outside our home a Mosman Pillar, receives more than 70% of what my family orders on line without any signatures or fuss. To maximise the number of parcels that couriers can deliver we have filled in the standing authority to leave (ATL) forms for DHL, Fedex and TNT. These are permanently kept on their system and flag the driver for each delivery. A win for all parties involved! Couriers Please and Toll are also happy to leave parcels when ATL has been given for a delivery.

NEIL Silke calculated that it was worth taking the risk of leaving his day job to develop his idea for a new letterbox that could handle parcels securely amid the rise in online shopping.

He had spent his lunch hours, evenings and weekends on his design while working full-time in project management and technical sales for an engineering and manufacturing company.

In late 2012 he left his full-time job to devote most of his time to the parcel letterbox, taking on part-time work to pay the bills.

Now he has set up a company, Deliver-Eze, and is working full-time on commercialising a product he believes has a global market.

Silke, of Melbourne, has made the finals of the Backyard Innovation category of The Australian Innovation Challenge awards with the Deliver-Eze parcel letterbox.

The awards are run by The Australian in association with Shell with the support of the federal Department of Industry. The Backyard Innovation category is open to the public and carries a $10,000 prize.

Silke says couriers often make several attempts to deliver parcels before finding someone at home to accept them. Parcels are often left on the doorstep, raising the risk of theft, or at the post office, forcing householders to make the journey to retrieve them, he adds.

“My parcel letterbox has the potential to greatly reduce this,” he says. “It can receive up to 80 per cent of common parcel sizes.”

Silke has designed three variants of the letterbox, most of them made of steel. One type integrates into most new and existing fences while another is designed to be bricked into masonry. These variants are manufactured in Australia. A third variant — a stand-alone pillar for homes without fences — is made in China.

“We would like to keep as much manufacturing as we can here if possible,” he says.

The letterboxes can accommodate packages measuring up to 325mm by 315mm by 225mm.

Their common feature, the intellectual property at the heart of the design, is their security mechanism. There are patents pending in several countries on the mechanism. They have an internal blocking flap which is linked to the letterbox’s front door.

“As you open the front door, the flap moves forward, blocking access to the parcel storage chamber,” Silke says.

“When you close the door, the flap returns to the rear of the unit, clearing the way for parcels to drop to the storage area.”

The parcel falls on to a shock absorbing mat in the storage chamber. He says the mat would allow a carton of eggs to be deposited without breaking them.

Householders open a lockable door at the rear of the letterbox to retrieve their parcels. Each letterbox has a unique bar code that couriers will be able to scan as proof of delivery.

After completing a bachelor of engineering degree at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (now RMIT University), Silke worked for Holden as an engineer for about 16 years.

He eventually shifted his focus from the car industry to other parts of the manufacturing sector.

“I could see the writing on the wall,” he says.

The experience he gained in the automotive sector has been critical to his latest enterprise. “There are a lot of engineering principles in this design,” he says.

Silke chose materials that would be durable and minimise corrosion and worked hard to optimise the design to maximise the size and number of parcels that could be accepted by the letterbox while minimising its size.

“This allows you to have something that takes decent-sized parcels but can still be integrated or hidden away,” he says.

He did extensive benchmarking to assess competing products on the local and global markets.

And he consulted fencing contractors, bricklayers, manufacturers and householders to ensure the product would work “in the real world” and meet the needs and tastes of consumers.

Silke is now focusing on marketing the letterbox and is in talks with big builders on the incorporation of it in their designs.

He is glad he took the plunge to start his own business. “I started thinking of business ideas and this was the best idea I had,” he says of the period when he first contemplated the move. “This has given me a lifeline to another life to apply all of the knowledge I gained from the automotive industry to a new area and, hopefully, shine.”
